A CLASSIC & TIMELESS STYLE
by Melanie Szeto

It's your wedding day ... soon. You need to find that dress. Someone to do your hair and make-up. And it all has to be princess-perfect. That's why so many brides have turned to Ervan Woo, a Sydney-based bridal designer, hair stylist and make-up artist. Having done it for 20 years, Ervan really knows how to make a bride look their best. "I don't try to change the way you look, but rather, enhance and express your own beauty," he says.

Bridal design

After completing fashion training at East Sydney College of Fashion and the Whitehouse School of Fashion, Ervan launched his formal-wear collection in 1986. Seduced by the exquisite design and detail of haute couture, he soon focused his talents on his own exclusive bridal label (many of his gorgeous gowns have featured in magazines like Vogue Brides, Studio Brides and Complete Wedding Guide).

Inspired by the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, Ervan says, "I like to create simple, classic and timeless gowns with a contemporary touch. And I won't compromise on quality." His gowns are made with the highest-quality silk fabrics, European laces, brocades and tulles.

Visit Ervan's studio on Sydney's north shore for a consultation and you'll not only find a designer who can create your one-of-a-kind dress, but someone you can trust and feel comfortable with. "First, we'll talk about your whole bridal look — designing your gown, accessories, hair and make-up," he explains. Ervan can also advise on your bridal party, from bridesmaids to flower girls and mother of the bride. He can even put you in touch with other bridal services like a florist and a wedding photographer.

Then he'll begin work on your gown, seeing to every detail himself from the first stitch to the last. After measuring up and several fittings, you can be confident Ervan will have everything organised and done on time — with care. "Words can't describe how I feel when I see the happiness and smile on my bride's face on their wedding day."

Hair & Make-up

Having trained with Sharon Blaine (The Art of Hair), MAC Cosmetics, the Australian College of Makeup and Special Effects and Napoleon Perdis, Ervan only uses quality products and equipment to produce flawless hair and make-up. He's also fine-tuned his expertise during special events, working as the key make-up artist for the Sydney Bridal Expo 2005, 2006 and 2011, as well as with MAC Cosmetics for the opening of Mercedes Australian Fashion Week 2006. Ervan has previously joined the hair and makeup team at Network Ten Productions, and his work also features in Australia's leading Fashion and Bridal magazines.

After your bridal gown is designed and fitted, Ervan can do a trial with your hair and make-up, ensuring your hair complements your dress, while your make-up is flattering yet long-lasting – and, of course, looks great in photos. “At your wedding, I’ll be there with my team to create the total look for your special day."
